How SteadyHealth News works?

SteadyHealth News is feature that allows members to discover, submit and vote for news, in order to promote and share the most interesting stories with the SH community.
Members should find an article, image, or video online and submit it to SteadyHealth News.

Submission appears in Upcoming News, where other members can find it and, if they like the news, vote for it. Once the news reaches enough votes, it will be promoted in Published News.

Besides being voted popular, news can be ‘buried’ and taken off the front page, if majority of members dislike it. Vote/Bury ratio will determine when story is promoted, and when downvoted off the page.

Members could also comment news using Discuss option, or share with others using Tell a Friend option

By submitting news and voting, members actively participate in building the community with useful content, and help others finding necessary information.

How to submit your health news?

To submit news you have to be registered member on SteadyHealth.com.

1. Follow the News link on the top of the page
   
2. Once you get on the News page, click on SUBMIT NEW STORY on the top
   
3. Submit panel with Step 1 will open up
   
4. In other browser’s Tab, open the news source site and choose the news you want to submit (we picked Yahoo! Health)
   
5. Copy the news link from the browser
   
6. Paste the link into Submit panel and press Continue
   
7. You’ll enter Submit panel Step 2 where you should add details to your submission.
   

   As you could see from the picture above, you have to add title first. Usually, the title is already generated to match with the title from the source site, but you can modify it if you want. Just keep in mind to keep the title related to subject, otherwise wrongly altered news title could be misleading and lead to downvotes from the community.

   Then you have to pick a right category for your news. Category can be chosen from the drop-down menu. This is the list of available categories, which can also be found on the top of the page:

   After you have chosen appropriate category for your news, add some tags, so the members who search for particular subject can find your article. Don’t forget to separate the tags with commas.

   Finally, you should add some description to your news. You could simply copy/paste the intro from the source page (as seen on the picture below), or you could add your own comment instead (keep it related to news’ subject).

   Once you have done with adding title, tags and description to your news, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Preview and Submit button.
   

8. You’ll enter the Step 3 where you should finalize your submission. If you’ve made a mistake during previous steps, you can always fix them using Modify button. To submit your finalized story, press Submit Story button.
   
9. Your published story will show up in Upcoming News awaiting for votes
   
10. Your news will reach front page (Published News) once it gets enough votes for promotion. To check most voted news, click on Published News button on the top of the News page.
    

How to vote?

You can vote for most interesting news by clicking on the Vote button next to the news’ title. The new vote count for that story should appear.

You can vote for as many stories as you like, but you can only vote once for each story. Also, by submitting your own news, you give it one vote. You cannot additionally vote for your news.

The news that gets most votes will reach front page and will be promoted as Published news. By voting you help other members find the most interesting news quickly.

Also, if you dislike certain news, or if the news is duplicated, spam, or has misleading title or content, you can use option called Bury to downvote and remove that news from the page.

Bury option is useful because it keeps the page clean of the spam and off topic news. You’ll find Bury option below the news description.

Both Voting and Burying are anonymous, i.e. members don’t know who voted and who buried news.

How many votes or buries does it take to promote or remove stories?

It depends. Usually Vote/Bury ratio determines whether certain news would be promoted or buried, but some other things are taken into consideration as well, such as diversity of votes/buries, time of submission, news source, etc.

Remember, this isn’t popularity contest. Vote only for the news and stories you find interesting, and bury bad information. Do not base your rating on other factors, such as dislike toward other members; burying other stories above yours to promote own news, etc. That won’t help your story being promoted.

SteadyHealth News guidelines

General SteadyHealth forum ToS are applied here too, but there are several guidelines that members should follow when submitting and voting for news.

1. Do not post offensive, violent, obscene or pornographic material
2. Do not open double accounts in order to vote for your stories
3. Do not bury news in order to promote your own upcoming story
4. Do not misuse Vote or Bury option in any way
5. Do not submit commercial spam
6. Graphic content should have [Warning – Graphic content] next to the news title
