The Government of Canada through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) have announced support for five new research projects designed to help further understand and address the H1N1 flu virus. "Canada is a global leader in H1N1 flu virus research, including research with our international partners on a safe and effective H1N1 vaccine," said Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq.

Reuters - Canada's food-safety system was caught unprepared and acted without a sense of urgency during last year's outbreak of listeriosis in which 22 people died after eating contaminated deli meat, according to a report released on Tuesday.

Health Canada is advising expectant mothers and breastfeeding women not to take the vitamin-mineral supplements Maxum Matragen or Maxum Multi-Vite by Seroyal International Inc. Maxum Multi-Vite has been approved as a vitamin-mineral supplement for only the general public but lacks the required cautionary statement on the label regarding pregnant and/or breast feeding women.
